Data Free utilizes SMS to query the internet. This means users can access content when they don’t have WiFi or data.
It works like this:
Users send content requests to the server over text.
The server receives the user’s text request and performs the necessary search.
The server sends the result back to the user over SMS.
Data Free uses ‘bots’ to make web requests. Here are the bots that are currently available:
Wikipedia: summaries of wikipedia pages
Urban Dictionary: urban dictionary entries
Suggestions: make suggestions to the Data Free team for new and useful bots
The app automates communications between user and server. This means that different requests to different bots can be made seamlessly, without any effort from the user. All the bots, all the requests, in just one number.
Data Free doesn’t save user specific information. Read our privacy notice for more information: https://github.com/Data-Free/Privacy-Notice/wiki
